The Challenge

Rapid growth is a challenge for any organization.  Couple the typical challenges with serving the needs of many rural communities offering state of the art medical technology in locations that typically face connectivity challenges can sometime be difficult.  Illini turned to Acropolis in 2003 facing some significant technical challenges.  We were asked to help architect and implement a platform for future growth.

The Solution

To address Illini’s weekly service needs, Illini chose the HeliosVision Advanced Managed Service to address user issues, patching and desktop maintenance.  As patient load, the need for additional staff and increasing industry demands the need for centralized, redundant, access became more critical than ever.  Illini utilized the Acropolis private hosted Universal platform with built in power, internet, firewall, and switching redundancy alleviating the frequent outages that were a regular occurrence at the previous location.  In addition, Illini added highly reliable MPLS internet connections to the data center mitigating the risk to downtime.  With Acropolis managing everything from the servers down to the desktop, Illini and their staff can focus on patient care while Acropolis focuses on the delivery of IT resources when and where they are needed.

The Return

This solution allows Illini to be flexible and respond to changing patient, staff, and regulatory needs.  In the past, Illini had to manage many systems spread out over a large geographic area.  Patient portability was a challenge along with inconsistent patient experiences between clinics.  This new system allows doctors and staff to work off the same system being served from the Acropolis highly redundant, highly available data center.  Whether Illini needs to add additional staff or an additional clinic, server and infrastructure configuration is no longer the bottleneck allowing Illini to see more patients in less time across all clinics.
